A suction cup needs three things to hold: a completely smooth non-porous surface, a cup wide enough to generate real force, and a base flexible enough to conform without being so soft it peels.
Only one of those is about the product. Tile, glass, sealed acrylic, and finished metal work. Textured tile, grout lines, painted drywall, unsealed wood, and most laminate do not, and no product will fix that.

Getting a cup to hold
- Clean the surface and the cup. Any dust or residue breaks the seal, and this is the cause of most failures.
- Dampen the cup very lightly. Water helps the seal; lubricant destroys it.
- Press firmly from the centre outward to push air out from under the cup rather than trapping it.
- Hold for a few seconds, then test with a gentle pull before committing weight to it.
Surfaces that work
Large-format smooth tile, shower glass, sealed acrylic tubs, glass doors, finished metal, and sealed stone with no visible texture.
Surfaces that will not work regardless of the product: any tile small enough that a grout line falls under the cup, textured or matte tile, painted drywall, unsealed or oiled wood, most laminate, and anything with a visible surface pattern you can feel.
A safety note on shower use
Water and suction do not combine well. A cup that holds when dry can release when soapy, and a shower is a hard surface with nothing to grab. If you use one in a shower, test the seal after everything is already wet and soapy rather than before, and keep a hand available.
